"PPC products: 28 day strengths in seven days” – Kwena Rocla

Today, in a strong assertion of Pretoria Portland Cement’s (PPC) new products’ value proposition, Kwena Rocla - one of the largest users of cement in Botswana, announced its significant increases in compressive strengths when using PPC products.

Launched in 2011, the new PPC Surebuild CEM II 42.5N and PPC OPC CEM I 52.5N, promised significant cost reduction of concrete costs, whilst allowing builders and contractors to produce 15% more concrete of equal quality or produce a higher quality concrete than what they were previously used to  using the same amount of cement.

We have observed, over the past few months of using PPC’s OPC 52.5 cement, a significant increase in our compressive strengths. As precast concrete manufacturers we utilise high strength concrete so we can strip moulds at least twice daily and deliver products between three to seven days. Whilst site operations are based on 28 day strengths, we at Kwena Rocla attain the 28 day strengths in seven days due to steam curing,” said Glen Ansell Kwena Rocla’s CEO.

Since the introduction of the 52.5 PPC’s OPC cement we have been able to cut our cement by a minimum of 15% and attain 62-67 Mpa compressive strengths in seven days. This has been provided over the last two months and we are currently down to minimum cement percentages in our various mixes. As a result, we are showing a significant saving on our purchases.

PPC Botswana General Manager,  elated by the positive feedback from clients says, “We really appreciate the feedback we have obtained from our customers. We will continue to provide only the best products in the market as we have in the last 15 years in Botswana, and more than a century in other markets,” says Werner De Beer the General Manager for PPC Botswana.

When we launched the products into the market last year, we noted that their development was in line with the country’s vision of building a better Botswana. We are excited and proud to be enhancing value to the infrastructural development through our products. Many of our users have seen a reduction cost of cement per cubic metre, guaranteed better quality control and higher compressive strength for builders. For brick makers, the new product has increased production yield because it results in  reduction in breakages, whilst builders enjoy quicker setting and improved quality of concrete.

We are taking a clear message to the nation - that PPC and its cement products not only have the ability to help customers realise their construction dreams, but also the compassion to better the lives of every citizen,” added De Beer.

PPC is an iconic brand and its cement has been used for the past 119 years and will continue being used to build Southern African landmarks and the development of its infrastructure and major construction projects, just like it did with the Rates and Taxes building, Ministry of Health building, BOBS, SSK International Airport,Diamond Technology Centre Botswana, SADC Building, Francistown Stadium, Dikgatlhong Dam, Game City Mall, River Walk Mall, Sebele Mall, Station Mall and the list goes on.
