Our African Footprint in the DRC

In 2013, Remy Musungayi, the DRC Minister of the Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises, invited South Africa-based companies to explore the opportunities offered by its new special economic zone (SEZ). The DRC Government has also placed an emphasis on infrastructure projects.

PPC is currently in the process of building a new cement manufacturing plant in the DRC, which will be completed by the 1st quarter of 2017. This project will include the construction of a one million ton per annum cement factory and associated quarry, located 20km from Kimpese in the western DRC, which will ensure easy access into the main markets.

PPC has formed a DRC-based company together with Barnet SA of the DRC and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as shareholders, PPC Barnet DRC Holdings, for the purpose of establishing an integrated cement manufacturing facility with a capacity of 1.0 million tons of cement per year. The capacity is based on a cement kiln with an output of 3 000 tons of cement clinker per day. The plant is located in the village of Zamba, around Kimpese Territory of Songololo, District of Cataractes, and Province of Kongo Central.

PPC is committed to investing in sub-Saharan Africa and we look forward to a growing contribution and partnership with the DRC in the years ahead.
