PPC and the Association of Arts Pretoria invite all young artists to enter the Twentieth Annual Young Concrete Sculptor Awards

This prestigious competition gives emerging artists the opportunity to showcase their skill and creativity through the unique and challenging medium of concrete. As South Africa’s only national sculpture competition, the Young Concrete Sculptor Awards (YCSA) competition is aimed at artists of 18 years and older who are either beginners in the field of sculpture or who are not yet considered professional or established artists.

The 2011 YCSA competition promises to be even bigger than previous years and entrants stand to win R50 000 if their piece is crowned “Best Sculpture on Exhibition”. The runner-up will receive R25 000 and two deserving artists will win merit awards of R5 000 each. These fantastic prizes will once again be awarded based on the judges’ assessment of each piece’s technical skill and creativity combined with outstanding conceptual design and thinking in concrete as the main medium.

This year’s theme is “Our Strength, Your Vision” - a theme derived from PPC’s latest brand campaign and which encourages artists to rely on PPC for support in order to bring their vision to life.

Entries for the 2011 PPC Young Concrete Sculptor Awards is about to get underway and PPC will be hosting a series of one-day workshops around the country to familiarise young artists with some basic skills and techniques for working with concrete.

Bookings for the workshops can be made through Nandi Hilliard on 012 346 3100 or 083 288 5117. Please read the “Conditions of Entry” and be part of this unique competition and the celebration of the arts.
