Ntšhafatso (Hercules)

Ntšhafatso (Hercules)

With the increasing demand for cement PPC decided to expand its cement milling capacity by installing a new clinker grinding facility at PPC Hercules works in Pretoria.  This will increase PPC’s cement output by one million tons per annum.

The main components of the project are an energy efficient vertical roller mill, a clinker silo and a duo-cell cement silo with bulk road loading facilities.  The project commenced in February 2007.  The use of modern equipment, complying with strict environmental requirements, will ensure the continued supply of cement.

The Ntshafatso project was commissioned during 2010, and included installing an energy-efficient vertical roller mill, clinker silo and duo-cell cement silo. This modern equipment will ensure the continued supply of cement as well as numerous environmental benefits.

The vertical roller mill, together with the remaining milling capacity, is calculated to produce an electrical energy saving per ton of cement produced of around 15% at PPC Hercules. The mill bag house continues to perform well below PPC specification and manufacturer guarantees and fully complies with minimum emission standards published by the Department of Environmental Affairs.
