MaAfrika Tikkun

Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC), showed their support for Ma Afrika Tikkun, by visiting the Phuthaditjaba Community Center in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg. PPC, the preferred cement supplier to the non-governmental organisation (NGO), handed out soccer balls to the youth at the community centre.

PPC, City of Johannesburg and the Department of Mineral Resources turn on the lights in Diepsloot

Built in 2007, the centre has to date never had access to any electricity source causing it to become something of a white elephant in the community. After extensive engagement with the Municipality, the ward and the community, PPC identified solar energy as a sustainable solution to unlock the full value of the centre and significantly impact skills development in the community.

Young Concrete Sculpture Award 2009

The 2009 PPC Young Concrete Sculptor Awards, held in partnership with the Association of Arts in Pretoria, once again showcased a high quality of submissions at the official opening and prize giving ceremony, yesterday. The event has been on the art calendar for the past 17 years and has become one of South Africa’s most prestigious art competitions. The competition invites young artists to submit sculptures using concrete as the primary medium and is open to persons with or without formal training in sculpting.

PPC Excels on Empowerment Rating - 01 April 2009

Pretoria Portland Cement is delighted to announce its Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) rating as audited by Empowerlogic (Pty) Ltd, a registered verification agency. The only cement manufacturer listed on the JSE since 1910 has now achieved a level 4 rating according to the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) scorecard following the results of its interim BBBEE audit in March 2009. This is the highest BBBEE status to date in the cement manufacturing industry.

Annual Golf Day - 26 March

Another awesome PPC golf day - An enthusiastic field of 120 customers, PPC team members and other keen golfers gathered at the Rand Park Club at the end of March, to take part in the ever-popular PPC Golf Day. Held under clear autumn skies, the competition was a great success – thanks largely to the excellent organisation skills of Team PPC! “Our customers love this event – many say they are invited to lots of corporate golf days, but only make a point of playing ours,” says Marlene Corrie, GM Sales and Marketing Gauteng.

2008 Young Concrete Sculpture Awards - 09 July 2008

For all the young concrete sculptors interested in entering the competition, PPC Cement will be hosting a regional workshop on concrete sculpting on Tuesday, 22nd July 2008 from 09h30 to 15h00 at the Mofolo Art Centre, 1209 Mzilikazi Street, Mofolo South, Soweto. The workshop will provide artists with insight into the basic skills and techniques in working with cement.
