In line with our belief that a solid education provides the foundation for economic development in any community, PPC Riebeeck invested R177 000 in extending classroom capacity at three education centres in the Riebeeck Valley community.
We donated building material for the construction of a Grade R classroom at Riebeeck West Primary School, two Grade 3 classrooms at Riebeeck Kasteel Primary and a créche in Morreesburg. PPC Riebeeck actively seeks ways to support local government and our community schools in providing learners from the Valley with good education opportunities. PPC supplied all the material for the classroom and it was built over the recent summer holidays, with the first Grade R learners entering the classroom in mid-January 2008.
In April 2007, PPC in partnership with the Khanya Schools Project donated 30 computer workstations, network infrastructure, a server and back-up system to upgrade the existing computer equipment and infrastructure at Riebeeck West Primary School to a higher standard.
Riebeeck Kasteel Primary also benefited from PPC's active involvement in the area, by having two Grade 3 classrooms built for them. The only dual-medium school in the valley, Riebeeck Kasteel Primary has grown substantially over the last few years with over 200 learners attending the school. The donation of materials has meant that between 50 and 60 more learners can be catered for.
PPC also donated 400 bags of cement to the Swartland Municipality towards the construction of the Dolfyntjie Créche in Morreesburg.
This will enable the Masi-Khule members to plough the land with their new tractor and grow a variety of vegetables for supply into the local community.
