PPC, Strength Guaranteed

Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) Group Laboratory Services (GLS), based at the Jupiter site in lower Germiston, has again received a zero-finding result (meaning no defects found) in the Cement and Concrete Institute’s (C&CI) annual unannounced national audit of SANS 50196-1 Cement Strength Test. The C&CI National Audit ensures an acceptable, comparative and consistent industry standard of all physical testing laboratories around the country, ensuring accurate repetition and reproduction of results from laboratory to laboratory.

In the past 10 years PPC GLS has received a total of only one finding. PPC’s Dwaalboom, Hercules, Slurry and Port Elizabeth laboratories also received a zero-finding result in this year’s audit while the two remaining sites have yet to be audited.
To achieve these results each audited laboratory is assessed against a standard system compromising of more than 150 checkpoints.  The assessment standard includes calibration of the laboratory equipment, environment control (temperature and relative humidity in the laboratory and curing room), methods of testing, and training of testers and laboratory staff. PPC GLS was the first laboratory to be granted a zero-finding result in South Africa in the (C&CI) National Audit carried out in March 2000.
This audit is proof of the exceptional quality that we pass onto our customers. It is with thanks to all PPC laboratory employees that this result was achieved and it is without a doubt that we can confirm to our customers a guaranteed world-class product,” said Eduardo Auger, General Manager of PPC Group Laboratory Services.
